Black Briar, a new American tavern, is now open at 201 N. Morgan St. in Fulton Market. The restaurant serves dinner daily starting at 4 p.m., with a kitchen built around coal-fired cooking and a twenty-seat wraparound bar at the center of the room.
The current dinner menu runs from raw and chilled plates such as oysters, hamachi and bluefin tuna to snacks like Hawaiian rolls with coal-roasted pineapple butter, deviled eggs with prosciutto chili crisp, venison tartare and snail toast. Pastas include sourdough cavatelli and a lamb-belly mafaldine bolognese, alongside grilled rice with lobster. Larger plates include halibut with clams, a half chicken with semolina dumplings, pork short ribs with coal-roasted sweet potato, and a prime New York strip. Desserts include a pistachio cheesecake and a chocolate Napoleon.
The bar pours cocktails that borrow from the kitchen, such as the Coal Train with tequila, mezcal and coal-roasted pineapple, plus a list of wines by the glass and local beers from Dovetail and Half Acre.
Hours, the full menu and reservations are on the restaurant’s website and its Instagram, @blackbriarchi.
