(Crain’s) — Huron Consulting Group Inc. has acquired software provider Click Commerce Inc. of Beaverton, Ore.

The purchase will make Click Commerce’s roughly 60 workers part of Chicago-based Huron’s higher education practice. Click Commerce’s top three executives will become managing directors at Huron.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The purchase marks Click Commerce’s return to Chicago. The once publicly traded software company got its start in Chicago in the mid 1990s and in 2006, was purchased for $292 million by Illinois Tool Works Inc. Illinois Tool Works sold Click Commerce in 2009, recording a $29.8 million loss.

Huron and Click Commerce have worked together in the past, and executives from both companies said the acquisition made sense.
