J9 Wine Bar Keeps Pouring Global Wines by the Glass in Lincoln Park

J9 Wine Bar has poured wine by the glass at 1961 N. Halsted St. in Lincoln Park since 2018. The room is built around a long wooden bar and exposed brick, with a list that ranges from Catalonia and Rioja in Spain to Burgundy and the Rhône Valley in France, Piedmont and Alto Adige in Italy, Oregon’s Willamette Valley and South Africa’s Swartland, pouring varietals from Macabeo and Grenache to Nebbiolo, Grüner Veltliner and Cabernet Franc.

Food runs to charcuterie and cheese boards, with options such as Meyer lemon and honey goat cheese, truffle Gouda and Italian fennel salami, plus wine chips in flavors like smoked Gouda and black lava jalapeño. A cocktail menu lists a Negroni, a Last Word, an Old Fashioned and a seasonal Fall Sour, drawing on a spirits shelf that runs from Tito’s and Ketel One to single-malt Scotches such as Ardbeg and Lagavulin.

Bottles are available to take home at 25 percent off the list price, and J9 Wine Bar seats guests first come, first served rather than by reservation. The bar also books private buyouts outside normal walk-in service.

J9 Wine Bar is open Monday through Thursday from 4 to 11 p.m., Friday from 4 p.m. to midnight, Saturday from 1 p.m. to midnight and Sunday from 1 to 9 p.m. Current hours and the full wine, spirits and food menus are at j9winebar.com.
