Kumiko: Japanese Dining Bar and Cocktails in the West Loop

Kumiko, a Japanese dining bar in the West Loop at 630 W. Lake St., pairs a seasonal food menu with a cocktail program built around Japanese whisky, shochu and sake. The bar offers both an à la carte menu and a multi-course tasting menu, with pairing tracks for stirred and light cocktails, spirit-free drinks and sake.

Dishes include otsukemono (Japanese pickles), karaage and a potato salad, served near a whisky bar lined with backlit shelves of Japanese spirits. The tasting menu, which the bar suggests allowing up to three hours to enjoy, can be made gluten-free or pescatarian on request.

On weekends, Café Kumiko opens for Japanese café fare, coffee and tea alongside Kumiko classics. Kumiko has been recognized with a James Beard Award for Outstanding Bar and placement on the World’s 50 Best Bars list.
