Political firestorm and backlash over man put at gunpoint, robbed and carjacked in the Belmont Cragin area; want more vigilance, police and reward offered to capture perpetrators

Chicago, IL- A Belmont Cragin resident named
Patrick Gibbons who is a United States Postal worker was in his car taking a nap when a male subject opened his drivers door. The victim was put at gunpoint, robbed and carjacked him. Mr. was told by the perpetrator to drive him to an ATM for money and he refused. He told the assistant “ I’m not going to drive you to ATM”. said Mr. Gibbons.

The victim was then yelled and the perpetrator put a semiautomatic gun to his head and took his credit cards, his checking account book and his 2018 Vehicle. Several transactions were attempted on the victims credit cards, and his checking account. Mr. Gibbons filed a police report and the bank said a man by the name of Michael Davis is the one responsible for attempting to make transactions on the checking account at a local bank. The victim has been paralyzed financially where he cannot get any money because his credit cards, checking account and other IDs that were stolen. The perpetrator then took the victim’s vehicle and met up with other individuals at the corner and then they fled the scene of a crime. Mr. Gibbons will come out publicly and will ask for more vigilance, justice, and does not want this to happen to anybody else because it’s so traumatic. The victim has suffered trauma, PTSD, emotional distress, and been scared for life he states. After a carjacking the mental and emotional problems begin.

According to police data, carjackings in the city during the first quarter of 2022 were up slightly over the same period a year ago. There were 1,800 carjackings reported last year.

On Tuesday morning, community activists and the victim will stage a press conference were the crime occurred and will raise vigilance so the perpetrators are caught. A monetary reward will be offered to catch the perpetrators involved in this heinous crime.
