Chicago, IL- Gasoline prices are soaring all over the United States of America, just as they are around the world as well. As a result, most families and individuals are hoping to find the cheapest gas prices near them to refill their tanks.
The U.S. state with the most expensive gas prices is still in California. They have the second-highest gas taxes in the country, which doesn’t help to keep the price down and it’s not uncommon to pay an extra 51 cents a gallon for gas there. Unlike Georgia and other states, there has been no pausing of state taxes on gas in California. The average price of gas in California is 6.25 dollars per gallon, and it rises as high as seven dollars in some parts. The average gallon of gas in Illinois has surpassed $5 a gallon according to AAA. At $5.13 on average , Illinois is the only Midwest state over $ 5 mark. Every state is reeling with elevated gas prices, but Illinois second highest gas prices in the nation piles in to already soaring gas prices.
Only six states have higher gas prices in Illinois. Gasoline is a dollar $ 1.05 more than it was on February 24, when Russia invaded Ukraine, triple AAA llinois spokesperson Maria Hart wrote. One year ago, the average gallon of gas in Illinois was $3.27. Governor JB Pritzker doubled the gas text to $.38 from $.19 in 2019, putting Illinois gas taxes at second in the nation compared with 10th just two years before. His 45 billion infrastructure plan also implemented automatic annual gas tax hikes.
On Sunday evening, community activists will stage a press conference with placards demanding that Congress declare an “energy emergency” that would make it unlawful to increase gasoline and for the Federal Trade Commission to intervene and punish companies that engage in price gouging that is the regressive tax especially on the poor. We will also ask people not to buy gasoline tomorrow a boycott that might lead to the reduction of gas prices in the country.
