The Exchange Serves Modern American Fare Inside the Railway Exchange Building

The Exchange occupies the atrium of the historic Railway Exchange Building at 224 S. Michigan Ave. in the Loop, serving lunch, happy hour and dinner Wednesday through Saturday. The dining room sits beneath a three-story glass ceiling with a marble staircase, steps from the Art Institute of Chicago, Millennium Park and Symphony Center.

The menu lists salads such as a chopped Cobb and a roasted sweet potato salad, soups including tomato bisque and classic minestrone, and shareable bites like lamb meatballs, seared colossal shrimp and burrata. Sandwiches include a turkey club and a harissa chicken sandwich, while larger plates range from cavatelli alla vodka to chicken Milanese and salmon.

Happy hour runs Wednesday through Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. with discounted cocktails, wine, draft beer and food such as a chicken flatbread and crab cakes. On Saturdays the restaurant serves brunch until 2 p.m., with buttermilk French toast, a market omelette and a breakfast burger alongside Bloody Marys, espresso martinis and mimosas.

The building also houses The Listening Room, a bar built around a hi-fi sound system, and a glass-enclosed atrium space used for private events. Current hours, the full menu and reservations are posted at thexchangechicago.com.
