Vin Chicago, the wine and spirits shop at 1826 N Elston Ave in Bucktown, has been an independent, family-run fixture in the neighborhood for decades. The store traces its roots to 1934 and operated for years as Wine Discount Center before being rebranded as Vin Chicago, continuing under the same family ownership with sister locations in Highland Park and Barrington.
The shop stocks a curated selection of red, white, sparkling, rosé, natural and dessert wines, along with spirits including whiskey, tequila, gin, vodka, rum, brandy and liqueurs. Staff members include certified sommeliers, and the team says it personally tastes most bottles before adding them to the shelves.
Vin Chicago hosts tastings on Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. and offers wine delivery and in-store pickup in addition to walk-in shopping.
The Elston Avenue store is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; it is closed Mondays. More information is available at vinchicago.com. Check ahead for current hours.
