J&R Dance Lab is a partner-dance studio at 4453 W. Grand Ave., run by Jackie and Rafa, who describe themselves as professional salsa dancers, performers and instructors. Its tagline is “Where Music Meets Movement,” and the studio says all levels are welcome.
The weekly group classes run 7 to 8 p.m.: Salsa On2, open level and beginner friendly, on Tuesdays; Bachata, open level and beginner friendly, on Thursdays; and Salsa On2, intermediate, on Fridays. Training focuses on technique and fundamentals, musicality and timing, and partner connection.
A single Tuesday class is $20, and class packs are $72 for four classes (valid 60 days) or $136 for eight (valid 90 days). Advance registration is required. The studio also hosts guest workshops, including a three-hour intensive with Erick Morales scheduled for July 11, and Jackie and Rafa direct IRE, a team that trains dancers as performers.
