K.Flay: The genre-defying artist from suburban Chicago.

Recently K.Flay has been breaking away from the old musical schemes in the world. Proving she is not just innovative, but has managed to get some juice in the music industry, without breaking with her own alternative style which is light and pleasant.

She is a new artist from Illinois. The city of Chicago has historically featured musical movements, due to the cultural importance of the city. In this sense, they have always been new talents with different styles and based on different genres that when mixed produce a sound that delights audiences of all ages.

K.Flay presented the world in 2014 with a revelation, showing an alternative playing style mixing influences of rap and Hip-Hop, but keeping her own sound which she defined as a “genre-defying“, which also has been reaffirmed with every new song she releases.

This musical self missing style, has been an essential and important aspect to the ultimate success of K.Flay.  Posing as a tomboy, breaking schemes patterns, using baggy clothes that show her unique, Kristine Meredith Flaherty style, as originally called, it presents a revival of her own existentialism in her music, bringing art to another level of consciousness for the viewer. This girl who took her big leap in 2015 on The Ellen DeGeneres Show makes her entrance increasingly bolder in the modern music scene.  The competitive world of music has been kind to her, providing opportunities in each case because of her undeniable talent and desire to emerge in this medium. She has been presented as a fresh new artist, untethered when writing the lyrics for her songs, leaving aside the typical scheme presented by the producers in music.

Her years at Stanford, where she studied in 2003 were decisive to make her the artist she is now. Always with its principles to the front, she took elements from different musical genres to combine them and do something different.

This artist’s most successful hip-hop radio tune represented simplistic and stereotyped characters. It was at that moment that she realized she liked making music, and so began the adventure.  Then in the summer of 2004 she continued experimenting, composing songs recorded with her laptop. That same year it would be made known in writing the hit: Suburban Rap Queen, which she produced, and was presented in the local scene of her university, which gave her the opportunity to continue to grow and become known in the musical world.

This versatile artist had to face difficulties in adjusting to different schemes of traditional radio. But in 2013, she launched the campaign Pledgemusic, with which she could raise sufficient funds to finance her own music which left her free to create her own style, which is unique and creative.

her album “Life As A Dog Was” landed at Number 14 on Billboard’s Rap Chart and at Number 2 on Billboard’s Heatseeker Chart in June 2014.

The history of this artist has been growing as she has become known for her talent in different scenarios in the United States and even the world.

From her first song, produced by herself, through her famous success of 2014: Life As A Dog Was, reaching her latest production “FML” released in March this year, this tough girl graduated in psychology and sociology and has demonstrated that in the suburbs of Chicago, she really knows how to make good music.
