Political firestorm over aldermen wanting to remove Chicago Police from Chicago Public Schools; Want Chicago Police to remain in schools for protection of students and safety of faculty and other valid reasons
Chicago, IL-On that late September day in 1988, at about 10 a.m., a deranged gunman on a shooting rampage entered Moses Montesiore school and shot at police Officer Irma C. Ruiz. In an instant, Ruiz, a beloved wife and mother of four, became one of the first Chicago female officers to be killed in the line of duty. If this officer had not been there some children and faculty could of lost they’re lives.
As a substitute teacher I encountered many violent and disturbed children that have threatened to bring guns to school. Many times there were fights and I had to call police to resolve a situation. What about when that ten year brings a gun to school to shoot the children that are bullying him? Or what about the gang rivalry on our schools. What are you going to do there is a other Columbine incident? And the list goes on.
On Tuesday, residents and activists will stage a press conferences demanding that the 33 million dollar budget stay in our schools for police presence.
