Chicago, IL- In July of this year a Chicago Police commander named Melvin Roman who was in charge of the 14th district who was
transferred for alleged political reasons and retaliation. Commander Melvin Roman was transferred to the department Crime Prevention and Information Center. According to a reliable source Mayor Lori Lightfoot bumped heads with the commander because the commander complained of the lack of manpower in the district because of the amount of police protecting the mayor’s house and because of the amount of protests by her home.

Statistics show that there have been a spike of carjackings, shootings and robberies in the Shakespeare district where there is no police commander presently.

This past Labor Day weekend in the 14th district on Sunday morning approximately at 9:35 a.m., a 32 year old woman was working at the Walgreens in the 1300 block of North Milwaukee Avenue when she was approached by someone who stabbed her multiple times before fleeing, the scene. The victim was then pronounced dead at the scene. This happened blocks away from aldermen Daniel La Spata’s ward office.

The carnage continues in Chicago with near 500 murders presently with it escalating every week. Just this Labor Day weekend there was 56 shot with at least 9 dead.

Chicago residents continue to witness the outlandish destructive behavior of gun violence and crime that has taken over the streets and holding people hostage in their homes. The idea of bringing in the National Guard has been raised fir several months to help eradicate the violence but their has been contention.

On Thursday, activists will spearhead a press conference at the Walgreens where the 32 year old woman was slain and to discuss crime statistics in the city too. We will also show backlash about not having a police commander in the 14th district due to politics and retaliation.
