Interview With Chicago Judge Larry Axelrood

In this interview, I sit down with Larry Axelrood, a former criminal and civil trial judge in Chicago. Judge Axelrood shares his wisdom on everything from the importance of empathy among judges to the recent #DefundThePolice movement. Judge Axelrood also shares his opinion of Chicago’s finest criminal defense lawyers including the late Ed Genson, William “Bill” Wolf, Bob Galhotra, Thomas Breen, Todd Pugh, and Stephen “Steve” Komie.

The interview was conducted as a part of my Georgetown Law School course “Doing Justice: Trial Judges Explain How Tough Decisions Are Made,” instructed by retired DC judge Gregory Mize. In addition to fulfilling the course’s requirements, the interview will undoubtedly serve as educational material for aspiring and current trial lawyers.
