Police staffing review comes up as he announces 6% budget cuts for most city departments

Mayor Richard Daley on Thursday announced a review of Chicago Police Department management aimed at putting more cops on the beat.

The nonprofit Civic Consulting Alliance is conducting the free staffing review, beginning at police headquarters, said Roderick Drew, spokesman for Police Superintendent Jody Weis.
