Chicago’s Big Brother network of over 10,000 public and private surveillance cameras is already the most extensive and integrated in the nation. But, it’s about to get even bigger.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel chaired his first Public Building Commission meeting on Tuesday and joined his fellow members in adding three potential terrorist targets to the city’s surveillance network: the Board of Trade, the Federal Reserve and the AT&T switching center.
All three are located in Chicago’s financial nerve center. But, they apparently constituted gaping holes in Chicago’s camera network.

Yesterday, the ACLU of Illinois released a new report detailing the threats to privacy Chicagoans face under the watchful eyes of that city’s growing surveillance camera system. The report is the first large-scale, independent study of the city’s integrated surveillance system — a system former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff deemed the most “extensive and integrated” in the nation.
Perhaps most stunning in this age of continuing economic hardship are the report’s details about the staggering cost of purchasing, installing, maintaining and manning the Windy City’s Big Brother. While the ranks of Chicago police officers drop due to lack of funding, more than $60 million has been spent on the city’s surveillance camera network.
And to what end?

Authorities Plan To Trawl Phone Calls And E Mails For Signs Of “Resentment Toward Government”
Paul Joseph Watson Infowars.com September 30, 2010
Do you resent the government for enforcing Obamacare or raising your taxes? Write about it in an email or talk about it on the phone and you could be placed under surveillance as a potential terrorist, if frightening new technology being shopped to law enforcement agencies is implemented.
Forget pre-crime and get ready for face-crime, Big Brother is set to unleash a new wave of shockingly invasive and Orwellian technology on the American people if a recent symposium in Hamburg New York is anything to go by. Federal agencies, police departments and others were all in attendance to see a demonstration of a system that trawls phone conversations, emails and instant messages to detect “resentment toward government,” alerting authorities to potential “terrorists” who are then placed under surveillance.
