Chicago – Cab passengers in Chicago may now be charged a vomit fee in the event that they regurgitate in a taxi. As reported by the Huffington Post, the City Council signed off on regulatory updates last month that included the allowance of a $50 fee for cleanup if passengers vomit in a cab.

As noted in the report, efforts previously made by cab drivers to get approval for officially imposing this type of tax were rebuffed. Cities in several other states have already imposed similar fines.

Other changes included in the recent updates are restrictions on cab companies and drivers such as fines for violating regulations and daily work hour maximums. As noted by the Huffington Post, the changes have been enacted in the aftermath of the deaths of two pedestrians last year who were fatally injured in accidents reportedly caused by a cab driver.
